For about three years, I have religiously used Urban Decay's Primer Potion to ensure that my eyeshadow stays put throughout the day. There is no greater beauty blunder than slick eyeshadow creasing! Not a good look on anyone. The primer potion has never let me down. Even when it was only sold in a tube, with a little wand that didn't quite allow for the most effective product application. I was thrilled when Urban Decay released their professional sized tube. No wand applicator, just a ton of product. Great deal right?!

It was a happy romance, until I started having issues with the product drying out on me. I never had that with the previous primer potion in that little genie tube. Getting any product out in this form was a struggle.

I lost the battle and the pro size tube won. It ripped at the seam and the entire thing basically burst.

I was so upset. What to do, what to do? Buy a new one? Chalk it up to the California heat in my bedroom? Maybe that caused it. Go back to the original version? Do they even sell it that way anymore?

I had to act fast, as I wanted to save as much product as possible. I improvised and used a tiny jar that used to hold khaki colored pigment. Problem solved!

But I'm still angry, because it's a waste of money no matter how you look at it.
What should I do girls? I think this will hold me over for awhile, and I do like the convenience of a jar. But I am loyal, and I think I might buy another tube when this runs out. Hmmmm...

  1. I would switch if I was you. You dont want the problem to continue.

  2. i think you should just continue to buy the large size and when you get it immediately cut it open with steralized scissors and squeeze all the product into a makeup jar like you did with this one :)!! that way you can make sure the lid on your jar is always screwed on tight and hopefully that will prevent it from drying out in the jar :)!!

  3. o what a BUMMER! i would defiantly take that to sephora or wherever you bought it and ask for your money back. i love urban decay's products but yeah thats not cool at all... you should send their customer support dept an email too-- or a link to this post. they will probably send you a new tube (with applicator). xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams

  4. I would take it back! I swear by BeautiControl Shadow Control Creme. The tube can easily last me over a year!

  5. I agree! I would definitely contact the company. If you really are a loyal customer and want to stick with the brand they should at least give you a discount on your next purchase. Hopefully it was just a fluke anyway! No company can be perfect all the time right?

  6. What a bummer. If you bought it from Sephora, I think they will happily return/exchange it for you.

  7. Just Another Shopaholic: Thank you for your feedback :)

Lisa: You know, I just might! I know they sell little jars like the one I have at places like Michaels. It's not the actual product that failed me, its just the delivery system! So I like this advice Lisa :)

Jillian, Laura, Kelsey, and Andi: I would, but I don't have the receipt and I bought this a few months back. I don't think they could help me because of the time frame. If this had happened instantly, I would! But you know, I should have taken it back right away because the product was very dry, almost immediately after I opened it. I should have thought of taking it back sooner! I will if it happens again, that's for sure. Thanks girls!

  9. OMG - after all the flack they got about the old packaging, you'd think they'd get this one right!

If you have to decant the product whether you get the tube or the wand applicator, then they need to get some new package designers LOL!

  11. i like the old packaging better actually as well. you can still get it on urban decay's website, if you want to go back to the original genie tube.

  12. Mine did the same thing. It was super hard to get out of the tube and then the seem burst from squeezing it. I was so annoyed. It was drying out. I just gave up and bought a new one in a normal size tube. I agree though, it's ridiculous to waste so much product when it's expensive in the first place!

  13. I know it is annoying, so often they sell products in the wrong kind of packaging, this would do a lot better in a jar or stronger tube. For now I would stick to using your own jar if the product is working for you.

  14. I think that happens to products with that packaging. The bottom of my Too faced primer and hair conditioner ripped off as well :(

  17. Sorry about that! I think some Sephora stores still carry the old packaging, you just have to call and ask first so you won't waste your time.
