Happy 2017! Did you guys have a great holiday week? I certainly did. I went to the snowy mountains one day, followed by the ocean the next. California is pretty cool in that sense. Nate had the entire week off so we tried to fit in as many activities as we could. We also spent a lot of time getting together with friends and family, which we had been neglecting for a couple months.

And, he turned 35 on December 30th so I planned a night out in San Diego where I wore this little number. Unfortunately it rained that day, but the weather didn't stop us from having a wonderful time and dancing the night away. The last time we went to a club was in Vegas so it was a treat to let loose.

I know a lot of people are writing about their goals and resolutions for this year. I've never been into resolutions in the traditional sense, but I do think they assist in keeping you accountable. It's tremendously important to have a clear focus, otherwise the same old habits continue to confine us. I need optimism now more than ever. I already mentioned some of my thoughts on Instagram, but here's the general gist:

  • Be a better human being.
  • Get back into shape (I already started this yesterday but I know it's the most cliche resolution out there. I have to admit that having a blog where I've seen my weight go up over the years can sometimes make me feel extremely self-conscious and ashamed).
  • Continue school and get my certificate in writing/copy editing/digital media.
  • Travel a bit more. We'd like to explore the country since neither one of us really have. On the list is the Grand Canyon, Utah, Napa, D.C. and...anywhere but here really. Not that we don't love Cali but there is a lot more to see!
  • I say this every year but I'd like to read more.
  • Change what I can, accept what I can't.
  • Don't let what other people do, say, or think get under my skin. I am who I am, you either like it or you don't and the same goes for others.
  • Start trying for a baby this Summer.
  • Above all else, be a better human being.

You can read my post at this time in 2016 here if you care to look back. I think you will find it very interesting considering what I wrote!

I do have a positive feeling about this year, something I haven't felt in a long time. It's a fresh start, a clean slate. It's up to us how we spend our time. I hope you'll continue to spend some of yours here with me 😊

  4. I really like the 'change what I can and accept what I can't' idea for a resolution. That is something I definitely struggle with. I wish you all the best in 2017!

  6. Happy new year Noelle. Love your outfit and glad you had a great time off.
I don't make resolutions often, but few things just stick to my list each season rather than each year 1) get a better handle on anxiety 2) read more (I only read when I travel for work) 3) buy less crap hahaha

    1. I like these, especially the anxiety part! It's so difficult to get under control unless you have some outside help but keeping a positive mindset is important too!

    1. Thank you Wendy, I agree that weight is trivial and I focus too much effort on thinking about it! I should know better since I spent some time teaching my foster girls to accept and treasure their bodies. Great reminder, thank you for stopping by :) Happy new year!

    2. Weight is not trivial! It tremendously affects you by increasing your risk of disease, cancer, diabetes, depression, you name it. The also affects the hormone balance in your body which can make it even more difficult to handle the depression and self esteem issues stemming from the weight. Needless to say, maintaining a healthy BMI is about the single most important thing you can do for your well being, especially if you're considering having children.

    3. Yes I agree with your comment as well, especially since being recently diagnosed with a mood disorder. Exercise helps release endorphins! Good for my mental and physical health and I do want to be prepared for carting a child god willing! I just tend to obsess and get down on myself and body positivity is important too. Great points, I appreciate it!
