I've loved midi dresses since I was a kid, and I'm pretty sure that watching reruns of I Love Lucy are mostly to blame. I started wearing midi skirts and dresses a few years ago when they became trendy again, and I still can't let them go. Midi dresses are so feminine, and they can also be surprisingly comfortable. I love being able to move around freely in a midi length while still looking polished.

After seeing this dress on Lilly last Spring, I immediately bought it and have worn it countless times since. Dinners, a family gathering, and more recently on the plane ride to Mexico! Hey, the elastic waist makes it feel like I'm wearing sweatpants.

Wearing // Older Ann Taylor midi dress, Old Navy moto jacketSam Edelman flats, Chelsea28 white bag, cool option here & here

In order to bring the dress into Fall, I simply added the moto jacket I raved about in my last post. Camel and blush pink look beautiful, and I decided to tie them together with white accessories (which are still very much on trend for Fall and Winter). Who says you can't wear white after Labor Day? For that matter, who says you can't bring your warm weather favorites into the colder months? I've really been on a mission this year to get the most use out of different pieces in my closet and although I struggle with it at times, I think I've done well overall. I'm much happier dressing (and blogging!) this way and I hope I'm giving you some ideas!

I said a couple weeks ago that I would be saving my moto jackets for cooler weather. Well, let's just say I couldn't resist wearing this one. It's THE BEST jacket for Fall and there are a few reasons why...

First. I just love the look of a moto jacket to pull together an outfit. It feels a bit younger and edgier than your typical cozy cardigan, and I think one transitions easily from day to night. Great for a date!

Second, this moto jacket in particular is a nice weight for in-between weather. It's not true suede, so it's much less heavier than the real thing. I have one from BlankNYC and although I absolutely adore the fit and color, it's quite substantial so it's been designated as my Winter coat. The one I'm wearing here is much more versatile.

And third, this moto jacket comes in several beautiful colors. I love them so much that I grabbed one in burgundy as well.  For reference, I sized down one size. My jacket collection is small but useful. I can pull any of them out and each one goes with everything from dresses to denim.

Are you as into moto jackets as I am?! Linking up with Pink Sole today.

Hey ladies, happy Tuesday. I hope you are enjoying your week so far! I'm back with a casual outfit that's perfect for cool Fall days. Our weather is still fluctuating quite a bit but that's typical here - my safest bet is layering so I can adjust when I need to throughout the day.

I bought this jacket from Express over the Summer when Gina featured it on her blog, and I'm so glad that I grabbed it while I could! This style is so practical for everyday wear, and it can easily be dressed down like I've done here or dressed up. In fact, I love wearing it over a little black dress and ankle boots for a night out with Nate. My exact jacket seems to be sold out, but I've seen similar jackets at Old Navy, Gap, and Target.

Speaking of Target, I have to say that I'm really impressed with their a new day line. They make such great basics, like the tank top I have on here. I love it so much that I also bought a striped version. They have the perfect amount of stretch, are a thicker weight so they suck you in, and are incredibly comfortable and flattering. I'm wearing my usual size medium and they are true to size. I highly recommend them if you need to replenish any basics in your wardrobe. Also, the leopard flats were an impulse buy after seeing them on another blogger. They are also by a new day and are a great way to incorporate leopard into an outfit if you're a little shy like me.

After seeing mine, what are your favorite Fall basics?

I'm still working on gathering photos and collecting my thoughts regarding my recent vacation. I'm sorry it's taking so long! I could just throw a bunch of pictures at you but I'd like it to be more thorough. In the meantime, I thought I'd share how I'm slowly transitioning to a Fall wardrobe. It's been really hot here this entire month, but that hasn't stopped me from pulling out the jeans I bought during the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I'd been dying to finally wear them! They fit like a glove, especially in the waist. The hidden band inside them is the key; they lay perfectly flat against your midsection creating the appearance of a totally flat tummy. Plus, they are incredibly soft and comfortable. If anyone is in need of a new denim brand to try that's still affordable, go for Wit & Wisdom. I have two pairs now and am looking into more as the weather begins to cool down.

The perfect transitional outfit for me will always consist of a great pair of dark denim, a pretty top, and metallic accessories.

Tops that tie in the front are still going strong in the trend department, and when I saw this striped version at a local boutique, I knew it would become a staple. During the Summer, my style is more flowy and slightly bohemian, but come Fall, I go for a more classic tailored look.

I'm actually pretty happy with my Fall additions from last year. I'll continue to carry my Sezane shoulder bag, longline cardigans, and ballerina flats.

However, there are definitely a few trends that I'm interested in for Fall 2018:

1. Marigold everything: It's such an uplifting shade! I love it with a matte red lip.

2. Cap toe slingbacks: Chanel-inspired (or maybe the real thing) but they are so polished.

3. Hunter green bags: I've been dying for a rich jewel toned bag, and I've settled on green.

4. Check blazers: Versatile and chic, a check or plaid blazer is the perfect topper.

5. And yes, even sock boots have my attention this season! A little late to this but that's okay.

This floral kimono is one of my favorite purchases of Summer, and I've worn it repeatedly with everything from dresses (last seen here), to jeans and a cami, to denim cutoffs, and here with a knotted tee and mini skirt. If you haven't tried the kimono trend yet, I mean...why not? I own three and cycle between them constantly. Depending on the print/color/length, there's something for everyone. I wear mine over a bathing suit as well and it's just the right amount of coverage.

It's funny how much my attitude has changed over the years regarding which outfits to share on this blog. Not too long ago, I would spend quite a bit of time carefully picking each item, worrying if the look was unique, inspiring, or conveying a particular mood. Now I feel much more comfortable in just showing you ME, and it doesn't have to be tied to some perception I want to put out there. I used to obsess over every little detail, and God forbid I repeat wearing the same things too frequently. I've seen the light finally this year and now I realize the value I'm getting out of simply documenting the things that I truly love to wear, regardless of how often I've already shown them to you. I know I've spoken on this a lot lately, and I sound like a broken record but the fact that I featured this kimono just two weeks ago and am sharing it again had me thinking about all this. I know, deep thoughts.

Speaking of which, it's still incredibly hot and smokey here due to all the fires but we are fortunate to be safe in the area we live in. I've been keeping everyone in my prayers, all the families, animals, and firefighters battling the flames. I hope you will too.

It's usually around August where I start feeling a bit uninspired with my wardrobe. August and September are the hottest months of the year here, and while a lot of bloggers are previewing what's to come in Fall fashion, I'm over here reaching for anything that's loose, comfy, and breathable! I'll admit that even wearing jeans is a risky idea, but I live in denim so I do what I can to stay indoors in the air conditioning - such a fabulous invention!

But lately, it's back to basics with a pretty cold shoulder blouse and my most worn-in sandals. Both are older, but they are still on heavy rotation this Summer.

Building a wardrobe from a solid foundation of basics is a great way to make sure that your clothes work for you (although we do work for our clothes). I've really made an effort this year to pare down my buying, and before I do buy something new, I ask myself how many ways I can wear it?  Does it fill a void in my wardrobe? If the answer is yes, then I can be confident that I'll get my money's worth. As I've gotten older, I know that basics don't automatically equal boring. Play with color and print, and you'll have something that's practical, hopefully something that lasts a long time, and you can add your own touches to make it feel special.

How do you guys feel about fashion in August? Every post I read yesterday dealt with this topic! Hey, just keep me submerged in water until mid-September thankyouverymuch.

Aside from skincare products, nothing makes me giddier than a new lipstick. I've heard from countless beauty bloggers that Charlotte Tilbury is the Rolls of lipstick (For me, more like a Tesla).
They are quite expensive, so when the Nordstrom anniversary sale featured a lipstick and liner set, I purchased immediately. It includes the best-selling Pillow Talk lip cheat liner and two beautiful "your lips but better" lip shades that are exclusive to Nordstrom.

Honestly, both lipsticks look rather ordinary, nothing special aside from the gorgeous rose gold packaging. But let me tell you, they are anything but ordinary.

First let's talk about the iconic Pillow Talk lip liner: It's a great rosey neutral that looks good with any lipstick. I find it to be ultra smooth, creamy, and long-wearing. I can see why it's become synonymous with the brand. If you try just one thing from Charlotte Tilbury, start here!

K.I.S.S.I.N.G. lipstick in Blushing Dream (cool-toned rosebud pink with a satin finish): Out of the two shades of lipstick, this one is my favorite. Soft, neutral, but still enough color that I can slap it on whenever I want. Perfect for everyday, it has a slight sheen and feels really moisturizing.

Matte Revolution Lipstick in Rose Kiss (warm-toned merlot with a soft matte finish): Although I love the idea behind matte lipsticks, I always find them to be somewhat drying and difficult to pull off on their own. This matte formula is comfortable and lasts through hours of talking, drinking, and eating. It will look beautiful in the Fall and Winter when I like to wear darker shades on my lips.

Have you tried Charlotte Tilbury yet? If not, I hope you treat yourself soon because these products are amazing!

I rarely tell you ladies that you need a certain item I feature on my blog. I try to write from a perspective that we're all friends here, and I'm simply sharing little pieces of myself with you. I've never been much of a salesperson - I don't feel comfortable pushing products, and I don't want you here just for clicks and commission. Don't get me wrong, I'm always grateful when you like something enough to buy it for yourself, but in the great scheme of things, I don't rely on this blog for money or I would have stepped it up ages ago. My hope has always been that an outfit I style will inspire you in your own wardrobe. However, with all that being said - everyone needs this dress!

*Size Up One Size*

This ruched body-con dress comes in multiple colors, but I chose to go with a neutral. It's made from a stretchy cotton/poly blend, so it's incredibly soft and comfortable. The ruching at one side conceals a not-so-flat tummy while still showcasing your curves. I used to be so self-conscious of my hips and thighs that even the thought of a body-con dress made me cringe. I still prefer looser fit and flare styles, but this dress has made me appreciate my curves in a way I never have before. It's okay to own it! I truly think our bodies are amazing, and there's no reason to ever be ashamed of them!

Beauty // It Cosmetics Blush, Charlotte Tilbury Lip Kit

I added this gorgeous ivory floral kimono for a light layer, but how cute will this dress be later in the year with a longer cardigan? I can't wait to style it in cooler weather.

This outfit was taken last week before Nate and I went to a "speak easy" in Old Town. It was such a cool experience! I'm fascinated by the prohibition era. My great grandmother was a flapper (seriously) and I like to imagine myself dancing to Cole Porter or Louis Armstrong. I think I would have fit right in!

The thing I love most about Summer is that everywhere I go, I like to pretend that I'm on vacation.  And every Summer Temecula gets an influx of tourists, especially out in the wineries where buses of people are constantly in rotation and parties hop from one winery to the next. On this particular night, Nate and I went out to dinner but stopped at one for a quick glass of wine. The path leading from the hotel to the winery itself was empty, so I figured it was a good time to snap some photos of my outfit. This dress (last seen here) is unfortunately sold out, but I found a beautiful option with a similar silhouette in case anyone is interested. I love easy dresses that can be dressed up with pretty heels, or dressed down as I've done here. I added my new poppy pouch from Cult Gaia that's still pricey on sale, but as I said on Friday, I'm over the moon for this dreamy pastel print and I just had to have it. I think it'll be perfect in Tulum next month.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! I'm linking up with Rachelle today.

7.17.2018

I've been going back and forth about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, mainly due to all the chaos surrounding it. But after talking it over with Nate, I realized that I shouldn't be so sheepish about sharing my picks. Would I shop the sale if I wasn't blogging about it? Yes I would. So while I think the sale has oversaturated everyone's social media feeds, and it always feels ridiculous to shop for Fall in the dead heat of Summer... I hope my commentary is helpful to those of you who are interested! If not, come back later this week for a non #nsale post :)

I've been shopping the anniversary since college, and I've learned that you MUST go in with a budget and strategy, otherwise you'll feel overwhelmed. Last year, I was in the market for a nice jacket and that's exactly what I got. This year, I needed to replenish some dark denim. I made a list of items I wanted to try on, and I carried the list with me as I looked around each department. I also asked for assistance in finding certain things - I highly suggest tracking down one associate to help you on your quest. You can even book an appointment with a stylist, which makes the experience so much easier.

Also, focus on staples that you can wear again and again. For example, it's tempting to buy into all the trendy little blouses but how often will you wear them? Things like denim, jackets, cardigans, athleisure, heck even underwear, are your best bet. Leave the trends to other stores.

Wit & Wisdom Ab-solution jeans sale $44.90, after sale $68
They didn't have these in petite so I took an 8 regular and the fit is incredible (true to size). These jeans are so soft and they have a large black stretchy band hidden inside the waist that sucks you in. They are universally flattering, as I saw several of the Nordstrom associates wearing them as well and they looked great on everyone! As much as I love a little distressing, you can't go wrong with a pair of classic dark wash skinny jeans. Trust me!

I normally don't go crazy over the beauty items included in the anniversary sale, but because I've been wanting to try Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, I gave this little set a go. The rosy hues and famous pillow talk lip liner have me so excited to wear them in my next outfit photos.

Madewell Crossbody Bag sale $109, after sale $168
I had to order this because my store didn't have any in stock. The size, the color, and the fact that it has a zip closure to ensure all my things are secured inside make it an instant classic.

My Recommendations: A lot of things are already either sold out or have limited sizing, but call your store periodically for any re-stocks. I'm sure there will be plenty of returns so keep an eye out.

1. BlankNYC Suede Moto Jacket: I saw this in person and the color is more olive than it brown. It also comes in a gorgeous burgundy! I bought mine last year and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made for my wardrobe.

2. Olivia Moon Knit Blazer: I have an Olivia Moon black knit blazer from years ago, and it's still a great staple.

3. Gibson Convertible Cozy Fleece Wrap Cardigan: Gibson makes the softest cardigans (I have two of them) so I didn't pick this up but if you haven't tried the brand before, this looks like the perfect introduction.

4. Caslon Thermal Henley: I love the casual look of a thermal, and this color is so pretty.

Have you shopped the sale yet, or are you skipping it?

7.03.2018

I've had this blue and white bell-sleeve dress for over two years, and it's become a staple in my Summer wardrobe. I had no intention when I bought it of even keeping it around for long; I thought it would surely fall apart after a few washes. Lucky for me, it still looks brand new and it's the easiest, most comfortable item I own (seriously, I've worn it as a nightgown on camping trips!)

I'm sure you're familiar with it but just in case, I've styled it here and here too!

This past weekend, Nate and I headed to old town Temecula to walk around and enjoy the weather.

Wearing // Old Lush dress, Steve Madden sandals, Clare V bag similar here, Elizabeth Stone necklace

We have so many fun events coming up this Summer that the temptation to buy a new outfit for each is very real. But that's not practical, nor is it affordable for many people. With that in mind,  I have a question - How do you make older favorites look new and fresh again? And another question, how can we elevate our daily style when life gets busy and the last thing we want to worry about is our appearance?

In a world where shopping for a new outfit is literally a click away, what are some ways in which you can look put-together and polished with relatively little effort and money? Well, I've got some thoughts...

Manicured nails: Maybe it's just me, but I always notice people's hands. Short, manicured nails instantly elevate your look! If you don't have time to keep your nails painted, buff them out to ensure they look shiny and healthy. Same goes for your feet.

A healthy glow: You don't have to wear a full face of makeup, I definitely don't! But, a little tinted moisturizer and concealer on problem areas gives me the confidence to leave the house in a pinch.

Clean hair: I hate washing my hair as much as I hate going to the dentist, but let's face it ladies. Hair makes a big impact, and having clean hair is at least half the battle. Use dry shampoo to extend the life of a blow-out, but if that doesn't work, wash your hair an extra time per week. I'm sorry but greasy hair never looks polished. Don't worry so much about the actual style, just keep it clean.

Signature scent: One of my favorite compliments to receive is when someone tells me I smell good. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because scent is so personal? Do you have anyone in your life that you associate a scent with? I do, and I love the idea of wearing a signature perfume that can be uniquely tied to YOU. What's mine? Kai.

Great accessories: Pay special attention to your shoes, bags, and jewelry. They really are the key to looking put-together without having to buy a whole new wardrobe. They can transform say, an old favorite dress, into something that looks good as new.

A smile: If all else fails and you're having a bad hair day, bad skin day, just a bad day in general, a smile makes everyone look, and more importantly feel, more beautiful. I promise.

How do you elevate your daily style?

I hope everyone in the U.S. has a great holiday tomorrow! We are spending it in San Diego with friends and I can't wait! I'll see you back here on Friday 💋

There's no simpler way to look put together than a beautiful dress in a timeless polka dot print. It's been years since I worked in an office full-time, but this was essentially my style philosophy when I was applying for jobs and internships in college. When I was at a loss for what to wear, a dress was my go-to. To this day, it still is! Add some pretty (but comfortable) heels, a practical tote bag and you're set.

I sometimes miss doing workwear looks. For those of you ladies working in a professional office setting, I hope you enjoy and take some inspiration from this post! Unfortunately, the dress is currently sold-out but I've seen really similar options at all price points. The sky is the limit.

Wearing// Sold out dress but similar here & here, Similar sandals, Stella & Dot earrings, old tote but love our new avalon satchel

Naturally you don't have to save this formula for your 9-5. I love wearing dresses everywhere year-round, but especially in the Summer. I mean there are only so many options!

Do you want to see more of these posts? What's your favorite dress at the moment?

Wearing // Soludos espadrilles, Old Tobi dress but same silhouette and price here, Sold out Clare V bag but look for less here (and really everywhere)

Last Summer was when I first took notice of the brand Soludos. So many of my favorite bloggers were wearing their espadrilles, and they just seemed to really tie an outfit together. Even though I had my eye on them then, I decided to wait and when they cropped up again this year, I wondered why it was taking me so long to just buy them! Do you guys ever do this? I actually enjoy delayed gratification (which seems to be lacking these days but that's for another conversation).

I'm fairly particular with shoes, so I wasn't sure if this style would work for me, or whether or not they would get worn a lot. But honestly, at less than $70 dollars, I figured I could return them if they weren't meant for me. Luckily, they definitely were meant for me! I read reviews that claimed they stretch out quite a bit so I went with a 6.5 instead of a 7. I can tell that they will stretch out, but hopefully not too much! I haven't had any issues with the laces coming undone when I walk, and they look equally cute with denim shorts. I'll have to style them again for you, but I'm surprised at just how versatile, comfortable, and flattering they are. The wedge espadrilles are really tempting too!

Have you worn espadrilles? Give them a shot if you haven't. I hope you guys are having a great week!
