My friends Gina and Rachelle do little blog updates periodically on things they are doing and loving at that moment. Since I got some responses on my reader survey that included more lifestyle posts, I thought it would be nice to start today.

What I'm wearing:
I've joked about this before, but these jeans are my absolute favorite.  I can't take them off. They are soft as can be, fit like a glove, have only slight distressing, and are the perfect wash. I hope you don't mind seeing them so frequently, but I can't help myself. The price is right, so I highly recommend them.

What I'm eating:
Lunch is my favorite meal of the day, and I prefer a hearty salad with lots of veggies and just a simple drizzle of olive oil and vinegar. This picture was taken a few months ago at our favorite restaurant, but it's what I replicate at least three days a week at home because it's so simple. I just use whatever produce we have on hand, mostly tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, avocado, olives, peppers, feta cheese, and chicken pieces we grill on Sundays.

I also must eat a sandwich once per week, and I discovered a place here in town that has great options called Urbane Cafe.

What I'm listening to:
Music gives me energy, alleviates stress and worry, and is just overall a big part of my daily life. I also love watching music videos because well, I grew up when MTV actually played those. Songs on repeat:
Bastille - Send them off! (bonus is that the singer is easy on the eyes)

What I'm watching:
Intervention - To feed my fascination with addiction and mental health.

Disappeared - Although this show breaks my heart, it's a great reminder that tomorrow is never promised. People go missing under suspicious circumstances every day, and sadly many go unsolved.

Housewives of BH and NY - Obviously fun, neurotic, over the top, funny, embarrassing, superficial, and absolutely entertaining!

What I'm looking forward to:
Nate and I are going camping in Lake Isabella for our friend's birthday the last weekend of this month. We are taking the essentials: our jeep, our dog, and his parent's trailer so we can enjoy amenities. You know, like an actual toilet and running water. It's not really camping I guess, but it's something that all of our friends enjoy doing because it's a great excuse to get together, be out in nature, and the kids and dogs love it! Then the next weekend in May, my best friend is celebrating her birthday and I of course will be there with champagne in tow.

Okay, now let's talk about my reader survey results! I just want to express my sincere gratitude for the responses I received and for those of you who took the time to complete it.

Here are some stats:

*Most of you have been following me for over one year.

*The age range of my readers goes from 25 to 45. That's quite a span and I appreciate your support so much!

*Most of you enjoy seeing my style, but I did also get requests for more beauty and lifestyle posts. One person would like to see home decor, but I'm a terrible decorator (I just choose things I like with no real direction) but I will try my best to figure out how to incorporate that topic. I also had a reader comment that she would like to know more about my growing family when that happens, but on the other side, one reader strongly requested that I don't post about children at all. That made me laugh because I don't plan on turning this space into a mom blog. I'm sure I'll do little updates here and there but don't expect too much.

*As for sponsored posts, the vast majority of you don't mind them as long as they are relevant to beauty and style. You won't see me shilling feminine hygiene products or alcohol, although I'm still waiting for a La Croix/Perrier sponsorship 😉 That's not a joke.

*Lastly, you guys want me to post three days a week, ideally. I'm not sure I'm interesting enough for that, but I will do my best to keep a set schedule and do more when possible. I've decided that I will post on Mondays and Wednesdays, with posts also on every other Friday beginning next week. If I go back to Tuesday, Thursday I will make that clear.

That's it for now, have a great rest of your week!

"Bloom where you are planted"

Glo Minerals has been so generous to me over the years and I have written honestly about my appreciation for both their makeup and skin products. This collection for Spring '17 is right up there with my favorites. It's called Full Bloom and is one of three limited edition color collections, with a nod towards metallic blends and peach tones. Because I have light skin but dark features, the collection really enhances my lips, cheeks, and eye color.

The kit includes:
Cream blush in Fig
Full Bloom eye shadow quad  - harvest, suede, mahogany, and dusk
Cream shadow stick in Keepsake (which I already own)
Gloss in Pueblo

Price: $58

Each kit comes with a card that explains how to apply each of the products, so for the purpose of this post, I decided to follow the directions on the back. I used the entire cream shadow stick all over my lid, and even dabbed a bit on my brow bones and blended it out. I then applied all four of the shadows on my lids, using the dark dusk color as a liner. As usual, the shadows are all finely milled, pigmented but easy to blend, and very soft. They also have a satin finish, which I prefer. Matte can look too drying, while shimmer can look too tween so satin is the perfect in-between.

However my favorite products from the collection are the cream blush in Fig, and the gloss in Pueblo. The blush gave me pause because it looks so dark in the pan, but it really comes across as the perfect peachy glow. And the gloss! The gloss is non-sticky, moisturizing, and the perfect peach. It's my first go at trying either of these products from the line but it won't be my last.

When I think of Spring makeup, words like "fresh", "youthful", and "glow" come to mind. I like my makeup and clothing to match all of the beautiful greenery and colorful flowers around me. I think it's safe to say that this kit encompasses these quite nicely, and you'll be seeing this look on my face a lot! As usual, Glo was kind enough to send me these products but all opinions are my own.

How do you like to switch up your makeup for Spring?

3.21.2017

Well hello there! We meet again. Last week I was in bed for three days with a horrible bug, but I got plenty of rest and took care of myself. I had no interest in getting dressed or reaching for beauty products, which is why I didn't blog.

I'm back with an outfit that is the perfect transition to Spring. Aside from the allergy fits that plague me, the season is beautiful here and I welcome it with open arms.

Can we talk about my new Stella & Dot bracelet?! It feels strange to call it that because it's such a unique piece. A swath of silk chiffon hand embroidered with gold and silver metal. It ties into a beautiful bow and can even be worn as a choker. This is why I love Spring - I can be as girly as I want to be!

I've been dreading blogging recently. I haven't the faintest idea why, but every time I open my laptop I am filled with this nagging feeling that I don't have anything to add to this community. It was refreshing to take a short break last week, and I really needed that time to focus on myself, school, and just living life without the compulsion to be on social media much. I think we all experience this, so now as I write, I realize how good this space is for my psyche, even though I have bouts where I feel defeated and uninspired. I hope you all understand.

One thing I haven't been dreading - gentle nods toward Spring, and these new booties I bought from Amazon are probably my favorite purchase so far this year. I love that they are cut in a way that allows for more of a leg lengthening appearance. Being that I'm only 5'2, I struggle to find booties that don't make me look even shorter. Certain styles that come up higher on the ankle tend to make me look squat, and that's not what I'm going for! I also love the sleeves on this loose fitting sheath dress. The 60's trend is one I am definitely gravitating to for Spring. This dress is obviously more appropriate for the weekend, but I've seen options that can be pretty for the office. Just choose a longer style that is a bit more fitted throughout the body and can be worn with small pumps or flats.

What are your favorite Spring trends? It's right around the corner. I can't believe this is the last day of February!

2.13.2017

Soft neutrals with delicate details are going to take over my closet this Spring. Everything I seem to be "liking" on Instagram or "pinning" on Pinterest resemble a page from one of those flowery romance novels. I'm eyeing everything in shades of blush, taupe, light grey, and cream. Ruffles, bell-sleeves, velvet, suede, soft fabrics...I think you get the picture. Even my beauty products look similar! Some of the items shown below I have recently purchased, some are similar. and a couple are on my wishlist.

What are you loving?

7.01.2016

I love Summer beauty. Glossy lip stains, coral cheeks, and bronzed skin...what's not to love? I usually like to tone down my makeup in the warmer months, but I must confess that I've barely worn makeup at all this year so there isn't much to tone down! I still love to keep updated on the latest products, but because my job and lifestyle don't require a very made-up look, wearing a good amount isn't really practical. I'm all about dewy skin and looking fresh now that I'm in my 30's. It's no longer about staying matte - rather it's about looking like I'm glowing. Despite paring down my collection of beauty products this year, I've been on a binge lately! Confused? You shouldn't be. I'm a beauty junkie after all. I'm breaking this up into two parts so I don't bore you ladies to death, but I hope you find this helpful and maybe come away with a new item to add to your wishlist!

This lip product has caused a lot of confusion. Is it a stain, a gloss, an oil? I think the problem is that the formula is really thin and watery, so the product seems to just melt off after a few minutes of wear. However, I finally read the Lancome website, and the purpose of this is to layer it on top of a liner and lipstick. Seems a bit much to me, but I do like the hint of color it provides and it smells delicious. I've been wearing this a lot on my "no-makeup" days on its own, and then using it for a little hint of shine on top of my matte lipsticks for nights out. I wouldn't say it's very moisturizing, even though you shake the little bottle so the oil mixes with the color. Oils are supposed to be nourishing! This isn't unfortunately what I expected. I'm curious to try the Clarins lip oil, because I've heard that product is much better at keeping your lips from getting dry. Maybe they've perfected it.

I can't say enough amazing things about this heavenly little bronze and blush palette from Benefit. It really is all you need! As a long-time blush aficionado (aka hoarder), it was difficult for me to finally purge my old withering blush collection and replace them with this all-in-one instead. The colors suit every skin tone and I like to swirl my brush into two or even three of them at once for the perfect shade. It's the best travel companion as well. You get all of the face powders you need in one place.
By the way, this has been my first go at the Hoola bronzer and I can see why it's so popular. I thought it would look muddy on my light skin, but it's actually quite easy to build up and blend in.

My favorite Hawaiian body lotion

The Hyatt Regency in Waikiki was beautiful, open to the outdoors, friendly customer service, and there was one other plus - It had an Urban Outfitters right next to our hotel room. Dangerous yes, but did I mind? No! In fact, I think I rummaged through every inch and corner of that store before we left. I am not a huge fan of their clothing because it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but I love their beauty section. I found this French face cream and immediately bought it and slapped it on my face. I've never seen this anywhere in the states, but I have read about it on French beauty blogs and I am so happy that Urban carries it! In doing more research, it's even carried in Target! I have yet to find the brand there, but will keep looking. The consistency is light, but also very moisturizing.

I can't stop at an ABC store in Hawaii without bringing a little piece of it back to California with me. This scent IS Hawaii. The lotion is light, but it's perfect for Summer when my skin isn't quite as dry and I can switch to more light-weight skin products. I couldn't find the link, but I wanted to mention it in case someone else can find it for me!

I hope you all have a happy 4th of July! Our plans include a friend's gender reveal party, the Del Mar Fair, and some beach time. See you ladies next week.

I love the trend we've been seeing everywhere over the last few months of a slouchy, open trench coat. Or are they called dusters? I guess I should probably know the exact term, but either way, I adore the look of a relaxed longer coat over an outfit. I've worn it with jeans and on top of a dress, and I am convinced it ties together any outfit rather nicely. It's that extra polished layer that turns a basic look from mediocre (dare I say boring) into something a bit more special. Not to mention that with the April and May showers that typically come with Spring, having a light layer to cover your arms is a must! You never know when you'll be caught in a downpour. Trust me. It happened to me last week and I looked like a drowned rat. I should keep this coat in my car. Noted.

I'm still recovering from my crazy weekend in Vegas celebrating my sister-in-law, so forgive the lack of writing. I have so many posts coming up that are fairly long-winded so just consider this a little break from the thoughts in my head I like to share with you :)

I'm still recovering from my whirlwind weekend, and yes, I am completely aware that today is Wednesday! I had such an amazing time with my best friends in Little Italy, San Diego. I know I'm beating a dead horse (wait, scratch that. I hate that visual), but I've said it so many times before - if you're ever in San Diego, you NEED to visit Little Italy. It's right next to the gaslamp district, and it's the cutest area lined with restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and bars. I definitely participated in my fair share of libations. I was looking at my snapchat Monday morning, half mortified. But, I mostly had a giant grin plastered on my face, pun intended. At a certain age, I know getting tipsy is kind of a no-no, but at this point in our lives, I don't think my friends and I care if we let loose around each other every so often. There's no fear of judgement, and we love each other unconditionally. How long will I get to do that with them? How many chances are we going to get to laugh so hard we can't breathe, dance in a dizzy circle to Lana Del Rey, and forget about our cares? Not much longer I suspect. And of course, neither of us have children so let's all keep that in mind! My cheeks still hurt from laughing so hard. It was totally worth it. Sometimes, you gotta go off the deep end ;)

I'm getting that itch again. The one where I get ridiculously obsessive about my next big purchase, and that always means a handbag. I've said it before - some women love shoes, some lust after diamonds, and some like myself well...it's all about that next beautiful bag to add to my (rather small) collection.

Here's the criteria:

  • Must be practical and multi-functional
  • In keeping with the upcoming Spring and Summer, I want one in a lighter color
  • Which color have I narrowed it down to? Either beige, white, or blush
  • I'm also in the market for a crossbody/saddle style. Trendy at the moment, but when it comes to bags in particular, the saddle bag comes back around every few years.
  • Must be leather and of good quality because my bags are forever - quality over quantity
  • Must be under the $400 range. As much as I'd love a Chloe, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, or Valentino, I just can't bring myself to save for one just yet. There are other pressing matters in life. I have to be realistic.

I'm not one to jump at the chance to make a big purchase. I like to do some research, mull over my options, and then narrow the choices down to two or three. Sometimes I'll ask for others' opinions, but most of the time, I go with my gut because ultimately it's my money and I'm the one who is going to carry the bag!

Some pretty options that are in the running:

Which do you ladies prefer? It's hard to narrow down to just one!

...Something blue? Yup, I got that covered too. This title popped into my mind as I was going through the photos because not only am I wearing a tee from Anthro that I've had for what seems like ages, but I'm also in love with these brand spanking new pumps from Asos. The scalloped trend was popular last Spring, and I have admired the girly touch ever since. From the hemming on shorts and skirts to the pretty detail on bags and shoes, scallops are more than just those funny sea creatures I enjoy eating. I also love that these pumps are nude, but with a metallic finish to them. I can't stress enough how I often hunt for classic pieces with a twist when shopping for bags and shoes. Otherwise, I'd probably end up buying the same things over and over again! But I'll let you in on a secret - I do love the shoes so much, I want them in mint too.

This is the dress I was hoping would be great for a friend's upcoming wedding. However, the material is super flimsy and one false move and my lady bits will be on display. Not exactly appropriate for a wedding. Hell, not exactly appropriate anywhere! I'm very modest as you ladies may know, and I just can't imagine wearing this on its own. It's such a shame because it's beautiful! The soft layers flow around the body in a very feminine way. The color itself is extremely vibrant, and you know cobalt is my absolute favorite shade. I think I'll stick to wearing it like a tunic though, or perhaps over a bathing suit in the Summer by the pool. It's quite revealing, and I'm just not prepared to reveal. I don't regret buying it because it takes me out of my comfort zone. And, it was on sale :)

4.08.2015

Wearing all white is probably my absolute favorite "trend" for Spring. Once afraid that I would look like a giant sack in this ethereal hue, I now am crazy about it. I really blame my wedding for this love affair. I felt so special that day in my gown, that I think it's carried over into my daily wardrobe. It brightens my complexion, lifts my spirits, and is the perfect canvas for jewelry. I like to use it just as I do with black, meaning I let my accessories be the stand-out, or I just go with it and keep everything very simple and understated. The look is crisp, youthful, and chic. You'll be seeing me in similar outfits all season long. Light and bright! The epitome of my Spring wardrobe.

And now for something exciting, something I've been itching for! Once upon a time, I used to participate in a monthly must-reads series. If you've been following me from the beginning, then you have undoubtedly read those, and if you are new to my blog, just type in "monthly must-reads" in my search category and they will pop up. I started blogging in 2009 and during this time, I met some of my best blogger friends. It feels amazing to do this once again with them! I love them to pieces. If you haven't checked their blogs out, I suggest you exit this page and do so immediately.

A warm hug to Zeba for putting this together, as she did back then :)
