I love Summer beauty. Glossy lip stains, coral cheeks, and bronzed skin...what's not to love? I usually like to tone down my makeup in the warmer months, but I must confess that I've barely worn makeup at all this year so there isn't much to tone down! I still love to keep updated on the latest products, but because my job and lifestyle don't require a very made-up look, wearing a good amount isn't really practical. I'm all about dewy skin and looking fresh now that I'm in my 30's. It's no longer about staying matte - rather it's about looking like I'm glowing. Despite paring down my collection of beauty products this year, I've been on a binge lately! Confused? You shouldn't be. I'm a beauty junkie after all. I'm breaking this up into two parts so I don't bore you ladies to death, but I hope you find this helpful and maybe come away with a new item to add to your wishlist!

This lip product has caused a lot of confusion. Is it a stain, a gloss, an oil? I think the problem is that the formula is really thin and watery, so the product seems to just melt off after a few minutes of wear. However, I finally read the Lancome website, and the purpose of this is to layer it on top of a liner and lipstick. Seems a bit much to me, but I do like the hint of color it provides and it smells delicious. I've been wearing this a lot on my "no-makeup" days on its own, and then using it for a little hint of shine on top of my matte lipsticks for nights out. I wouldn't say it's very moisturizing, even though you shake the little bottle so the oil mixes with the color. Oils are supposed to be nourishing! This isn't unfortunately what I expected. I'm curious to try the Clarins lip oil, because I've heard that product is much better at keeping your lips from getting dry. Maybe they've perfected it.

I can't say enough amazing things about this heavenly little bronze and blush palette from Benefit. It really is all you need! As a long-time blush aficionado (aka hoarder), it was difficult for me to finally purge my old withering blush collection and replace them with this all-in-one instead. The colors suit every skin tone and I like to swirl my brush into two or even three of them at once for the perfect shade. It's the best travel companion as well. You get all of the face powders you need in one place.
By the way, this has been my first go at the Hoola bronzer and I can see why it's so popular. I thought it would look muddy on my light skin, but it's actually quite easy to build up and blend in.

My favorite Hawaiian body lotion

The Hyatt Regency in Waikiki was beautiful, open to the outdoors, friendly customer service, and there was one other plus - It had an Urban Outfitters right next to our hotel room. Dangerous yes, but did I mind? No! In fact, I think I rummaged through every inch and corner of that store before we left. I am not a huge fan of their clothing because it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but I love their beauty section. I found this French face cream and immediately bought it and slapped it on my face. I've never seen this anywhere in the states, but I have read about it on French beauty blogs and I am so happy that Urban carries it! In doing more research, it's even carried in Target! I have yet to find the brand there, but will keep looking. The consistency is light, but also very moisturizing.

I can't stop at an ABC store in Hawaii without bringing a little piece of it back to California with me. This scent IS Hawaii. The lotion is light, but it's perfect for Summer when my skin isn't quite as dry and I can switch to more light-weight skin products. I couldn't find the link, but I wanted to mention it in case someone else can find it for me!

I hope you all have a happy 4th of July! Our plans include a friend's gender reveal party, the Del Mar Fair, and some beach time. See you ladies next week.

Once in a blue moon, I get a kind email from a brand reaching out to me that I simply can't pass up. As a self-proclaimed beach girl, I love Summer because I can escape the desert heat in my hometown and make the forty-five minute drive to the coast for some relief! Third only to shopping and blogging, the ocean is one of my favorite things. Any chance I get, I'm by the water. Which brings me to these tank tops that Easy Livin' Tees sent over, as part of their Spring/Summer collection. I lived in them while I was on my Hawaiian vacation, and I'm even wearing "vitamin sea" now over my bikini. Whether you're running errands, having an outdoor BBQ, hanging out poolside, or taking a beach day, these little cotton tops with fun, catchy sayings are perfect. I especially love the fit of the "Summer lovin'" tank. It's fitted but not tight, and I love the Grease movie reference! Both tanks are  really soft and wash well. In fact, I've seen similar tops at surf shops that cost a ton more than these do, and yet these are just as adorable! They have other cute options on their website to suit any taste. I'm not typically big on graphic tees, but I can definitely get behind these because they are just so light and the quality is nice. I'll be living in them all season long.

Since I didn't want to waste precious beach time taking blog photos (aside from the one above), I took a cue from my blog friends and attempted some flat lays. I didn't photograph everything I wore, but pretty close! The best advice I can give when traveling, especially to a place like Hawaii, is to pack light and bring pieces that easily interchange with one another. Mix and match like a pro so you don't have to think about what you're going to wear each day. The point of my personal vacation style, and Summer in general, is ease and comfort. Now that doesn't mean looking like a slob. Simply put, it's about being in the moment and enjoying your experience rather than being a slave to fashion.

What's your Summer vacation style? Any tips?

Maui is home. I've been lucky enough to go since I was a child, and it's really the one place that connects me to my more spiritual side. My godfather lives there, and when I was in high school, I spent an entire month staying with him at his cottage. He's been there for me my entire life, and now that he's 70 and is battling health problems, I worry about him so it feels more important for me to see him. He's my partner in crime :) I even thought about moving there after graduation, so Nate and I always joke about my decision to stay in my hometown and marry him (which was a very wise choice by the way). Anyway, so many of my fondest memories are tied into this island, so I know I'm extremely biased when I tell you that out of the two I've visited, Maui is and always will be my favorite. The entire island has scenic views of the ocean, but whenever we go, we set up shop in Kihei. This trip, my godfather let us stay in a condo, and I can still sit here as I type and hear the sound of the waves crashing outside our window. I slept like a baby the four nights we were there! In fact, since coming back home, I've had insomnia and I think one reason is because I miss that indescribable white noise.

Maui is much more laid-back than Oahu. This is good and bad, depending on your personality and what it is you're looking to get out of a vacation. If you want a more quiet place to relax and enjoy a romantic time with your partner, then Maui it is. There's a reason why so many couples get "Maui'd". I'll never get tired of visiting every couple years. If we could go more often, we would!

Now onto the pictures, which again are not doctored. Enjoy!

When you're in Maui you have to:

Go snorkeling. We went to Molokini this time, which was slightly traumatic for a non-swimmer such as myself. Yeah, I love the ocean and I can't swim. Go figure. My personal favorite place to snorkel is Honolua bay. It's calm, protected, and easy for everyone.

Visit the shops at Wailea, including taking a little self-guided tour of the Grand Wailea hotel.

Grab happy hour at The Seahouse overlooking Napili Bay. Cheap apps and drinks that don't taste cheap!

Visit these restaurants for great food - Cafe O' Lei, 5 Palms, and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Go to Local Boys for shaved ice. Trust me on this. You'll see shaved ice stands everywhere, but Local Boys is the absolute best. I get mine with ice cream on the bottom.

Go the BACK way to Hana to see the famous black sand beach.

Wake up before the crack of dawn and travel up to Haleakala to watch the sunrise. I've done it twice. It blew me away. Just don't jump around too much. The elevation is so high that I nearly fainted once.

Iao Needle, or as we like to call it, the giant green phallic symbol :) Wear bug spray though.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea. I'm sure many of you have already been to Maui so I might be preaching to the choir here. And I'm not sure how this happened, but google took one of my photos and turned it into this, which I am going to proceed to print soon.

Are you ladies ready for some style posts? That's coming next week! Thank you for humoring me while I've played wannabe travel guide/wannabe Hawaii expert. You guys are awesome :)
