I purchased Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara on a whim after watching a YouTube video in which a well known beauty girl raved about it. It was an emphatic review, and I decided right then and there that I had to try it out for myself. I've used this for about a month and a half now and in a word? AMAZING! Really, truly, hands-down my new holy grail mascara. I love it more than my CoverGirl LashBlast, more than the Physicians Formula Jumbo Lash. Which actually bums me out because those are so much more affordable. This retails at Sephora for $19.

The packaging is just beautiful. The outside of the tube is encased in a deep metallic purple. It feels like leather.

The wand doesn't have plastic bristles like I normally like, but the wand is narrow enough that it can reach even the tiniest lashes at the corners of the eyes. The bristles are dense, but I think they vary in size.
The mascara is formulated without parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, and is fragrance free. It is very buildable, and I usually like to layer and layer just to see how big my stubby little lashes can get!
My sole brown eye, wearing two coats. Sorry for the odd picture, but I had so much trouble getting my camera to focus.

The mascara claims to increase lash volume by 424%! I thought that was a random number, and I'm not entirely sure how they came up with it, but I do agree that this makes my lashes so much thicker and longer. I feel like I'm wearing falsies!

I absolutely recommend this to you girls, and I wouldn't tell you that the price is worth it unless I planned on buying more again. I'll still be loyal to my drugstore favorites, but this will have to go alongside them. It's just that good.

  1. I agree that Tarte mascara is awesome. I did find that when it gets dry, it's dry. I wouldn't bother trying to pump more use out of it and just buy a new one. I didn't pump air into it to try and draw more product onto the brush, but I tried to use it when it started turning dry. It would flake into my eyes. Other than that, I really liked it. Thx for the info about it being paraben free. Didn't know that :)

  2. Gigi: Uh oh, I hope it doesn't dry out like that. I haven't noticed any dryness yet, but I haven't had mine for even two months yet. I also haven't noticed any flaking. I hate when mascaras do that! Thank you for your comment Gigi, I appreciate your honesty. Overall, I just love this stuff and hope it works for others who have tiny lashes too =)

  3. That looks gorgeous on your lashes! Tarte and Peter Thomas Roth both seem to be coming out with amazing products at Sephora...makes me want to try!

Did you know Physician's Formula is offering full-price rebates for several products (including their mascara) on their website? I may buy their mascara to try - it's free, so no loss if I don't like it!

  4. Rakhshanda: Thank you!

Ella: I've heard wonderful things about PTR. Makes me want to try too! I didn't know that PF had rebates, so thank you for bringing it to my attention. I think it's worth a try!

  5. Ohhh, I love Tarte mascaras! I haven't tried this out yet, but after your review & seeing the pic of your LONG & FULL eyelash, I really want to go purchase this from Sephora! I was really in love w/ the YSL Faux Cils mascara, but hated the price and that it dried out in 2 months! I recently purchase the Amazonian Smart Clay masacara from Tarte, and it was L-O-V-E at first use! It works better than the YSL and is so much cheaper. I hope Tarte doesn's discontinue it.. and maybe you should try it out after you've used up the LCL mascara. : )

  8. Just another shopoholic: Thanks!

Libbeh: I've heard that about the YSl - that it dries out too quickly and is super expensive. I will definitely try that Amazonian one next!

Andi: You'll have to let me know how you like it!

Primp and Giggle: Thank you =)

  11. I haven't tried this one yet and am quite the mascara connoisseur so I may have to pick this one up. I agree the packaging is super pretty - which is a critical element, no? Do tell, is the formula "wet" or more on the dry side? Thanks!

  12. MCQ: Thank you for asking! I would say it's more of a wet formula, although Gigi commented above that it dried out on her quickly. Mine has not. I don't find it so wet that it's hard to build though - I think the formula is wonderful!
