Happy love month ladies! I adore the month of February, although I'm not completely sure why. I think the main reason is that I met my fiance close to Valentines day, and so we deemed February 14th our anniversary.
Question of the month: (it comes from one of my favorite beauties who sadly doesn't blog anymore). How often do you work out? What's your preferred method of exercise?
I will be totally honest and say that my main reasoning for health and fitness these days stems from my wedding. I spent all of last year slacking off, and my body has definitely changed because of it. My fault, no excuses.
Now that my wedding is a few short months away, I'm feeling a bit more insecure and vain. It's normal, right?
I try to work out three to four times a week, and for a period of 30 minutes to an hour each session. I enjoy working out in the evenings. For those that have read my blog for awhile, then I think you know that I suffer from generalized anxiety. I don't talk about it on here often, but I'm not ashamed of it either. I don't take medication, but I do try to manage it with the help of a therapist. She has always recommended exercise as a means of coping. It's a huge endorphin release, thus you feel more relaxed and happy after a good work-out, and less anxious or stressed. So bottom line - I work out because I want to look toned and feel healthy, but I also have to do it because it's important for my overall wellness.
I usually do 25 minutes of cardio. I prefer fast walking or jogging because I hate running! We own an eliptical, so that's great because I feel like I work my entire body. Then I follow it up by targeting certain areas of my body. One night I'll lift weights and attempt to tone my arms (my weak point). Another night I'll do abs; the next night I'll target legs, and so forth.
I've tried Yoga, and honestly, I really want to get back into it. I've also thought about getting a trainer or taking a boot camp style class a couple of months before the wedding. If I do, I'll let you know how that goes.
What do you do for exercise?

  1. Ok - not only are you my style twin - you're my workout twin too (except you workout more than I do LOL!)...I don't enjoy running either (wish I did!) AND I use an elliptical AND I want to get back into yoga - wow!

I also love the mental benefits of working out - I've had a pretty strong case of the winter blues this year - but getting back into working out has helped me feel so much better.

I also workout in the evening - but I really want to be able to workout in the morning and get it over with first thing in the day...

    1. Hehe, I know we are SO similar in so many ways Ella ;)

I wish I could work out in the mornings, I certainly have time three or four days out of the week. I just have never been a morning person, and so the thought of working out first thing kills me! I hope that'll change one day...maybe once I have a baby ;)

    1. Yes, I think it's more motivating sometimes to see it as a health concern rather then pressuring yourself because you want to lose weight.

  3. I work out a LOT! It has actually become an obsession. It started with me trying to get my muscle tone back after having Sofia and now I work workout 5-6 times a week. I do DVD's at home (mainly interval training), boot camp and group high intensity classes and salsa sessions. I've got my body back and now I actually enjoy working out :)

I'd say it helped that I started with something I liked (dancing) and took it from there. Working out also makes up for the energy I lose not getting enough sleep. If I sleep 4 hours or more, I will def work out :D

    1. Good, that's great! I think once you start seeing results, you realize how important it is and you actually want to continue to work out more!

  4. First of all, congrats on your wedding. It's wonderful that you are working out for it, and I hope it becomes a habit after the wedding too.

I work out everyday of the week, except for Saturdays. I work extra hard these days to shed baby weight.

  5. Really interesting to hear you suffer from anxiety Hun. I do too. What' other coping mechanisms have you got other than excercise? Do you know what the anxiety is connected to? I love your blog, you're such an inspiration :-) x

    1. It's crazy how common anxiety is! People just don't talk about it! As far as other coping skills I use: Music! Music is huge for me, especially on a particularly rough day. I also use methods of distraction. I focus on things I love doing such as blogging, reading, taking pictures, and talking to my fiance or a friend. I tend to hold a lot back from others though, mainly because I don't want my anxiety to constantly be the focus of attention. And of course, I see a therapist every few weeks. It's something I have to work on everyday, but I try my best to manage it. I am so happy you enjoy my blog, thank you for reading :)

    2. Oh, I forgot part of your question ;) No, I really don't know what it's connected to. I've been this way since I was a kid, and I mean really little.

  6. my sister and i both have anxiety, but my sister's is much worse than mine. Luckily mine has mellowed a lot the last 2-3 years. my sister loves yoga/pilates and it really helps her a ton with her anxiety, she also takes natural vitamins like st johns wart to help.

    1. That's great that yours has subsided. You're reminding me that I need to go buy vitamins at Henry's! I used to take something similar to St. Johns Wart regularly, and it did help. Once I ran out, I didn't buy more. I need to do that! Thank you Kristen. It's nice to know I'm not alone :)
