Today marks my 33rd birthday, but I celebrated over the weekend by camping in the central California coast near Big Sur. Nate and I passed through it on our way to San Francisco, and we noted how badly we would love to explore it one day so finally we did. It was about a six hour drive from Temecula and with the road closures up there, it took longer than we expected. But it was all so worth it!

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves in all their unedited glory. Happy birthday indeed!

There was typically a layer of cloud cover that burned off in the middle of the day. It added a certain mysterious mood that I loved. It felt like Fall.

Can you spot the waterfall?

Gorgeous right? We did the usual thing of sleeping in our jeep on this campground overlooking the ocean. If someone asked me a few years ago if I'd ever be into camping, much less actually look forward to it, I would have laughed. But there's something about it now that I can't get enough of, a freedom I crave that I don't experience on a daily basis. I always leave feeling renewed. It reminds me of what matters to me in life.

If you ever get the chance, I'd highly recommend a trip to Big Sur. It really is one of the most beautiful places in all of California. Possibly anywhere!

And now I promise to get back to clothes and beauty! I have some fun new pieces to share.

  4. Did you take Nacimiento Fergusson Road to get there? I've heard it's windy and bit scary and am debating whether we should cancel our trip or drive in from the north.

    1. Yes I believe that's the only way to currently get to it. The road was definitely sketchy in some parts! But quite a few people used it like we did and just drove with extra caution. I'm not sure it's worth cancelling your trip, but it isn't a stress free little drive, although you're on it for about 24 miles through the mountains. The first picture in this post was taken at a lookout on nacimiento. Hope this helps!

  5. Happy Birthday Noelle!
I've never been camping and I really don't care for the outdoors but after seeing this and reading some of your other camping post makes me want to try it. Who know maybe I will be a convert like you.

    1. Thank you Keli! I know camping can be really uncomfortable for some people. You kind of have to let go of everything and just make do with very little, unless of course you have a trailer or RV. If you can get past all that, it really can be so relaxing! And fun! The more I do it, the easier it gets.
