This outfit has to be one of my all-time favorites. Not to sound like I'm tooting my own horn, but really, we all deserve to feel beautiful, particularly on our birthdays. Between the bell sleeves of the dress, my classic blush pumps, and buttery suede jacket, each piece looks great on its own and even better paired together. Thankfully it's been cooler the last few days and I can break out some of my "Fall" wardrobe.

We went out the night after my actual birthday and ate dinner by candlelight at the nicest Italian restaurant. We've been going there for a few years, but because it's on the pricier side, it's always a special treat! Besides the food, I enjoy hearing the waiters speaking in Italian. I mean, who wouldn't love listening to that all night long?! It was the perfect way to kickoff my 33rd year.

I hope you ladies are doing well and have a positive start to the week! I'll be back on Wednesday but I'm linking up with Rachelle and Carylee

Who's ready for Fall? I have my hand raised, although it will be quite some time before the temperatures cool down here in SoCal. I mentioned in my last post that the end of Summer/beginning of Fall is when I recommend adding in some fresh pieces. You don't have to spend a ton of money or buy a whole new wardrobe in order to update your look into the current season. In fact, most of my favorites are workhorses that I've had for years.

Today, I'm sharing some shoes that I recently bought with Fall in mind. You guys know I live in flats as I find that they are not only comfortable, but also practical.

I was unsure about the mule trend for the better part of Spring and Summer, but after trying this pair on last week, I asked myself what the hesitation has been. I think the trend is acquired. You either love it or you hate it I guess. I went from hate to love as soon as I found some that had more of a point at the toe. They look just as chic as regular flats, and are just as comfortable. In a neutral shade, I guarantee they will get plenty of wear.

I ordered these nude flats after seeing them on a fellow blogger from San Diego, and I'm so glad that I did. I try my best to avoid the whole "a blogger made do it" thing, but hey! I'm a reader of other blogs too and when something is good, I have to give in sometimes. Plus, I've been in the market for a pair of nude shoes and these have such a pretty detail.

I also ordered these last week and am waiting not so patiently for them to arrive. So between two pairs of flats and a classic pair of pumps, my new Fall shoe collection is complete...I think 😉

Next week, I'll share more of my new Fall pieces. Are there any new shoes on your radar?  Do tell!

I love dressing up a great pair of denim with a delicate top and sleek pumps. It looks effortless, yet I still feel polished enough to go almost anywhere. This feminine blouse is another Vegas purchase from Zara. Does anyone else feel overwhelmed in that store? Racks upon racks of billowy tops. I didn't know where to begin! Sizing is inconsistent so I grabbed a mountain of things to try on. I don't shop there often but I usually find something special when I do. This blouse was the clear winner out of the bunch, and it has all of my favorite details - lace, some frill, and a deep neckline. Just add a great pair of jeans and my date night look is an instant classic.

I haven't been posting as frequently because honestly? I've been terribly uninspired lately. January is always like this for me. I get excited about new goals for the new year, but I find that when it comes to getting dressed after the glitz and glamour of the holidays, I just want to be as comfortable as possible. Do you ladies feel this way? It's not that I don't love my clothes or have anything to wear. I just don't feel as compelled to get dressed up, so my outfits end up feeling a little too casual or boring to devote to blogging. In an effort to combat this, I go back to the basics. An easy formula: Classic colors + classic pieces = instant outfit. Camel and red is one of my favorites because the combination looks so polished. And nothing is cozier than a soft cable knit sweater. This is my second one and if I could wear them every single day, I would!

I'm also experiencing writer's block so bear with me. It happens to everyone, but mine irritates me to the point where I don't want to get near my computer. I'm hoping this will change quickly as I have a real talk post coming next...

I have a picture hanging on my loft wall that says, "Though she be but little, she is fierce." My best friend gave it to me as a housewarming present, and as I sit here typing this, I can't help but read it over and over again. I think you know I've been in a mood for a few weeks. I haven't decided what triggered it, but I was struggling to function as I normally do and I was falling back into bad habits and negative thinking. All the work I'd been doing to increase my mood seemed to be slipping away, and I honestly didn't even care. Being positive takes energy! It doesn't come easily for me like it seems to for some, but that's mostly my fault. I have to make a conscious effort to be happy and instead of asking for help, I tend to sulk. I was stuck in a rut until I went to visit one of the only people that can snap me out of it. I was honest with her about some things that had been troubling me, and you know what she did? She said that everything is going to be okay, and that she loves me. And just like that, I was back to feeling like myself again. That's it. Those words were what I needed to hear, as simple as it sounds. I don't need a self-help book, or a new pair of fabulous shoes, or a giant glass of wine (though I love all of those). I just need to remember what's really important, who's really important. In times of weakness, I need to remind myself to keep going, and that eventually I'll find peace through my own strength, in my own time.

It's almost Thanksgiving here, and now more than ever, I really want to thank those of you who stop by to read. Your kindness means a lot to me, and I appreciate every single one of you who take the time out of your day to come by and comment. Or to those that come by and don't.

I'm taking a few days off from blogging but I'll be back next week. Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your friends and family.

I hope you are having a great week so far! I'm in the midst of two final projects for school and really need to get in gear because so far, I have NO clue what I'm really doing. Marketing campaigns are a whole new world for me. Anyway, this little red bag is definitely my last fashion purchase for 2016, and I think I've picked wisely. The color is stunning, and I love the shape which actually holds a lot more than I expected. It pairs nicely with neutrals. I've always been drawn to this color combination for Fall and Winter, so I'm sure you'll be seeing it a lot this season.

Are any of you taking a break from shopping for yourselves? I know it's hard to do with so many tempting sales!

I used to shop fairly often at Old Navy, but the quality of their clothing has always been hit or miss for me so I stopped going there for awhile. Recently, I decided to give them another look and I was pleasantly surprised with my purchases. I'm trying to cut back on shopping and have even decided to put myself on a ban for the remainder of the year. That might seem drastic but I'd rather focus my energy on re-styling the pieces I own and have recently bought, rather than constantly clearing out my closet for new things. But back to Old Navy. I really love the feminine lace detail at the neckline of my blouse, and the color is stunning. Jewel tones are my favorite this time of year, and although it's nothing ground-breaking, I like to mix them in with neutrals. The flats are also a great find. I've been wanting a pair of camel flats for months and I'm glad I didn't have to spend much at all on these. My Stella & Dot jewels pull it all together! Love them.

I hope you ladies are doing well. I've been in a funk for the past few days so I'm trying my best to shake it off. Maybe once the election is over tonight I'll feel better! We can probably all agree on that.

10.19.2016

When I started blogging in 2009, it was a lot easier to connect with others who were just starting out too. Everyone appeared to be on a level playing field, meaning none of us seemed to know what we were doing or where blogging would take us. I didn't think it would take me anywhere frankly. It was a genuinely supportive community, and this was all before social media blew up and took over hours of our days. There was no Instagram (at least not that I was aware of) and affiliate linking was barely a thing either. We blogged because we loved it and wanted to share our finds, and it didn't matter if you were tech savvy or not. Most of us took pictures with a point and shoot, or our phones. Yes some ladies had already delved into the professional side, but it wasn't nearly as common as it is now. There was no air of snobbery either.

Today, the blogging world is saturated. I mean completely drenched. And don't get me wrong, there is room for everyone. I think it's great that people feel comfortable sharing their lives (or at least their style) with anyone who's interested on the web, but I can't help but wonder where some of the ladies I started out with have gone. Where did they go?

It's like having a friend that just stops calling you out of the blue. I often wonder how they are doing, if their lives have changed in a way that blogging just doesn't suit them anymore. Busy schedules, children, lack of time, maybe they just moved onto bigger and better things...But can't you break-up with your readers first? I mean, do we as bloggers owe that to people? Is it anyone's business? I don't care if I only have one person interested in the gibberish I have to say, I feel like I would owe it to that one person to be like, "hey. I don't plan on doing this for awhile. I'm taking a long break. Check back in a couple months". Or, "you know, this just doesn't interest me anymore, it's been fun though and thank you for sticking it out with me!"

Am I wrong? I tend to over-analyze so yes is a strong possibility. But I do miss my old blogging friends. I won't call them here by name because that's not my place and they probably want their privacy now that they don't blog, but they know who they are.

I also often wonder if Instagram has taken the place of even having a blog. It's definitely more convenient and less time consuming. However, I like to write. So therefore, I'd rather have a place where I can blather on and on without taking over people's Instagram feeds. Plus, I have friends on my IG that don't give a crap what I wear. They'd rather see pictures of Nettie or places I'm going to. And I'm certainly not making a separate account or carefully "curating" anything because that's just not what I want to do.

So anyway, I don't plan on stopping anytime soon but if I do, I'll let you know. I'll write a proper goodbye, even if no one cares to read it. And to those ladies who gave up blogging, I miss you! I hope you are all well :)

Wearing //
Asos pumps, pretty here and in flats

The past few seasons, I've really taken notice of the soft, draped jackets and vests that bloggers have been wearing. I love how easily they layer on top of other pieces, but don't add bulk to an outfit. However, they do instantly add a chic touch. Originally I was in the market for an olive green cargo vest, but after spotting this lovely variation at Target of all places, I decided that the feminine counterpart was much more my style anyway. It can be worn in so many different ways: with a tee and jeans, shorts and a tank, and on top of a little dress as I've done here. I like the contrast of sweet ruffles and cream lace with an "edgier" vest. I put the term in quotations because this is probably as edgy as I get! It's fun to try new trends while still remaining true to my own personal style. As the late great Oscar de la Renta famously said, "Fashion is about dressing according to what's fashionable. Style is more about being yourself." And these days, I'd rather be myself.

Linking up with Carylee and Rachelle today.

I'm definitely a flats type of girl. I love the LOOK of heels, but they get uncomfortable pretty quickly. I also love the FEEL of sandals, but they often are far too casual with most outfits. Flats are the happy medium. I get the comfort level I prefer, but I still look polished and put-together. In a word, perfect.

These Chanel flats were a 30th birthday present from my mom and hubby. I always admired them on others, and every time I passed by a Chanel boutique, I would stare longingly at a pair. I'm not much of a shoe girl, so I never thought I'd be lucky enough to own them one day, but I guess I underestimated my family. They really are lovely, and very comfortable as well. The best part? They are as timeless as flats come, and they will never go out of style. Catch me walking in these beauties when I'm sixty.

Chanello! It's probably one of the most memorable scenes from Sex and the City, when Charlotte and her event planner friend Anthony enter a Chanel store and see a strapping young door man. Who doesn't love Chanel? I do, but my friend thinks my quilted jumbo flap looks like, and I quote, "an old lady". What? Bite your tongue! Hey, those were her words, not mine. Anyway, I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't carry it as often as I should because there is no way in Hell I'm getting another one (unless we win the lottery). So I take care and guard it like it's made of pure gold.

We didn't go to brunch again this time, as you may recognize the stone wall from my this post. I just fell in love with the background, and while taking our dog for a ride, we decided to stop by again and snap some photos. It was difficult to resist the restaurant, so we popped in for a mimosa. If you guys follow me on Snapchat, you'll know that Nate and I are doing a 10 day detox. A smoothie for breakfast, a healthy salad for lunch, and a protein and vegetable for dinner. You can snack on raw veggies with hummus, mixed nuts like almonds or walnuts, and hard boiled eggs. We are almost done with the detox, but I'm enjoying the way I look and feel so much that we are going to just keep it going. Of course we'll allow a few indulgences here and there but overall, I think it's a great way to eat. If you want to read more about it, the link is here.
