Last Wednesday marked my three year wedding anniversary. Whenever I think about it, I can't help but go back to the days leading up to our ceremony and how nervous I was. I remember feeling sick to my stomach, all tied in knots,  and I wanted to call the whole thing off and elope. Or do it in a courthouse with nobody watching. Or maybe fly to Mars where I'm assuming you don't need a marriage license. I was never one of those little girls that dreamed about her wedding day. I wanted a family of course, but I never really gave much thought into what that would entail. When you grow up seeing your parents arguing non-stop, it doesn't exactly give you the warm and fuzzies that marriage can actually work. So while most girls imagined a fairy tale, all I really wanted was just a companion and a friend. I wanted security, and I don't mean monetarily. I wanted someone to share my thoughts and feelings without judgement. Someone to laugh at my stupid jokes, someone who understood that I'm timid and I always need a push to try new things.

We have been together for over ten years now and I don't remember much about love before him. I can't even fathom what dating would be like today. I'm pretty sure I would just give up and get a house full of dogs, maybe a pet pig. I think reality t.v. has ruined relationships. People seem to care more about looks than actually having a partner you could grow old with, someone who won't run if you get hit by a car and end up in a wheelchair. This is going to sound over the top but stay with me here... I like my husband because I know he will be there for me when I'm old, senile, can hardly walk, and need him to wipe my ass for me. I would do the same for him. Now that's love.

So it isn't always pretty. We fight and get angry and bored with each other like all couples inevitably do. But he's my friend, and we chose each other to ride through this messy life. I wouldn't have it any other way...that's the truly romantic part about marriage and monogamy, the part that Hollywood often forgets to tell you in movies. The truth? With all of our shortcomings as human beings, with all of our flaws, we still choose each other every single day.

I would also be remiss if I didn't mention Carylee in this post because she was the one that convinced me to buy my very first pair of Kate Spade Licorice pumps at a steal! Thank you for being a part of my anniversary Caryl! The shoes were a hit, and I felt like I did leave a little sparkle wherever I went that evening :)

I attended my first country music concert on Saturday with my best friend. She loves country, so I was happy to go along with her even though I'm a total newbie to that style of music. But hey, I'll listen to anything with a good beat and fun lyrics! Not to mention the excitement of seeing someone performing live. There's nothing better. I try to go to shows as often as I possibly can. My taste is more rock though. I like classic rock, alternative, and anything from the 90's. Next month my friends and I are going to see Blink-182 and I seriously cannot wait because I've loved that band since I was in middle school. Anyway, back to Saturday. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but Luke Bryan puts on a great show and we had a blast. I have to admit, he's pretty damn cute! Tight jeans and all :) I get why there were throngs of women there to get a look at him.

Oh, and thank you to everyone who entered my Stella & Dot giveaway! The winner is Amy Ann Arnold! Congrats! I will be emailing you shortly.

Today is my 32nd birthday. 32 years of eating, sleeping, breathing, walking, talking. I never paid much attention to my birthday when I was younger. Strange isn't it? Usually it's the other way around. People tend to forget their age as they get older, but if anything, I'm more aware of my age now that I am getting older. I guess it has something to do with still feeling like I don't have my shit together. In my twenties, I imagined that I would have a high paying job or career, with two kids, a husband, and a dog. Well I have the husband and the dog. But no kiddos yet. Thankfully as far as we know, it's by choice. We will see if that changes in the next few months...

So with some reluctance, I've made it to 32. And I've come to the realization that this is where I am right now in life, and that although I still have a long way to go in my quest for actually feeling like a full-blown adult, I'm getting closer. We don't realize how far we've come until we really let ourselves stop and take a good look back at where we once were. Life goes by so quickly, that if you constantly dwell on what you don't have, you'll miss the things you do. So today, I'm letting myself be in the moment. Right now. Time will only tell what the future holds but there is no use in worrying.

By the way, I want to say a big thank you for all the wonderful comments I received on my life update. Not only was I overwhelmed by your kindness and support, but I have also tapped into the writer side of myself again, and I would like to sprinkle in more of those posts along with the usual fare. I hope you'll continue to follow along. This community has been so amazing over the years, and your love is absolutely noted :)
