This question comes from myself as well as Alison, and it has definitely taken some thought!
I would describe my personal style as practical and comfortable above anything else. I love getting dressed up and feeling glamourous, but I think everyone has their own definition of what glamour looks like. I love the classics - a great fitting pair of jeans that can transition from day to night, a little tweed jacket to throw on over everything, a great pair of shiny black pumps that look smart in any situation. Versatility is key in my wardobe. I also value looking put-together and timeless. I love following a trend just as much as the next girl, but I don't ever want to look back on a picture when I'm older and think, "God, who was I trying to be?" I don't ever want to feel like I'm getting dressed for someone else. I like neutrals with splashes of color. I love wearing basic pieces and then adding accessories to really complete a look. I love looking feminine, and I don't feel the need to "edge" things up (although I do love that sort of tough-girl look on others). I think I just know myself these days. My style has evolved in the sense that I know more about what I like and what I don't like. Fitting in was a huge part of my style when I was younger. I just wanted to look like everyone else, to blend in with the crowd. I've always loved fashion, and that's something I get from my mom. But I was always very confused about what looked "good" on me. Being petite at 5'2 and having some curves is difficult. It took me a long time to realize that my body is fine just the way it is, and a tailor can take care of a lot of it! I know this is something I still struggle with as a woman. But I do believe that essentially, even if and when my body changes throughout life, my personal sense of style will still remain. I'll still always gravitate towards the classic, lady-like look. I'm pretty sure that Coco Chanel will always be my icon :)
Here are some looks that sum up my style:

Hum...I'm still getting to that! I tend to change a lot! :D My style is more like your 3rd photo :) Great post by the way!
ReplyDeleteLove your style so much - seeing these pics just reminded me of how many amazing pieces you own (the gold sequin skirt, gorgeous tweed jacket...amazing heels & dreamy chanel flap!).
ReplyDeleteSuch a great answer - I really enjoyed reading it :-) So much of what you wrote applies to me too - I wanted to fit in and wear what everyone else was wearing...now I'm not afraid to modify a look to fit in with my comfort level :-)
I think style comes with age! I think when you're in your teens and early twenties, it's all about experimenting and trying new trends. Now that I'm pushing 30, I know a lot more about my style!
Deletei have the same bubble necklace and I love it:)
ReplyDeleteyou look always very chic and stylish

Thank you Siena
DeleteIt's funny how once you "know" yourself and don't just follow the trends, personal style can come very easily. Your style is definitely very classic and feminine!

Yes, I agree! You can't just blindly follow every trend!
DeleteI think you and I are similar in that we both love classics. I can relate to the trying to fit in idea too, I think everyone can. In this is such a great question, great reflection too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I loved reading everyone's answers!
DeleteI love your style :) classy and girlie wins in my books. Coco Chanel is a great icon to have :) Oh and may I say after seeing you wear that sparkly skirt (which you're showing here again) I got inspired to buy one too. Mine is more silver/pink but looks great with everything :D
ReplyDeleteMy style has changed through the years but been mostly consistent for the past 7-8 years. I'm usually in shift dresses, pencil skirts and heels and rarely ever wear t's/jeans/pants/flats. I don't care about trends too much; I'm tall and pretty curvy and I find most trends are not suited for curves. I wear what I know will work. My style icon is Sophia Loren as we have similar body shapes and she always looked so glam.
I think I saw it on Instagram, very pretty!
DeleteI love that your icon is Sophia Loren :) Dressing for your body is so important! It's hard when many clothes are designed for tall, thin women. It's easy to get disappointed. But knowing what works on you is the key!
Oh that coral pleated skirt will always be a favorite. You are definitely classic and timeless. Loved reading this post!
ReplyDeleteSequins&Stilettos
