If there's one thing I've learned after ten years of documenting my style through blogging, it's that I really value quality over quantity. Trends come and go, and even though they're fun to participate in, ultimately I want a wardrobe that makes me look and feel my best. Maybe it has a little something to do with age. Now that I'm well into my thirties, I gravitate towards timeless elegant pieces that will last for years. This is especially true when it comes to jewelry.

For a few years I tried out statement necklaces, giant cocktail rings, and heavy chandelier earrings. They made for some interesting conversation, but those pieces never really felt like "me." Most of them broke or tarnished after a few wears. These days, I'm all about understated gold jewelry. In particular, delicate gold necklaces that can be layered, worn alone, or mixed in with absolutely anything. Gold necklaces add just the right amount of sparkle, and they draw the eyes up toward your face. I swear they make your skin glow! I love layering two at a time for instant polish to any outfit. They can elevate a simple t-shirt and jeans, or they can effortlessly add a classic touch to a more complicated outfit.

For example, the cobalt dress I'm wearing here has a lot going on - ruffles, tassels at the neckline as well as some on the sides. The risk is piling on too many accessories and looking overdone. Who wants all that fussiness in the middle of Summer? My dainty gold jewelry adds subtle polish without taking attention away from the dress. I then added some neutral sandals and a small tote for dinner at our favorite winery.

My newest acquisition is my zodiac sign which is Virgo. Although I'm not a huge believer in astrology, I've always been fascinated by the concept and I love the understated elegance of the necklace. I decided to layer it with my diamond initial necklace, and I think they pair so nicely together! Of course, I still wear this sunburst coin constantly and almost always with this shimmering strand of tiny gold discs. With so many unique retailers and artisans out there, finding your own everyday elegance has never been easier.

Do you love dainty jewelry as much as I do? What are your favorite pieces?

  1. Love your gorgeous blue dress and delicate jewelry. It's hard for me to imagine you as a "statement jewelry" person! I guess I've just known you to be into delicate jewelry for a few years now so I definitely associate that with you!

    1. Aww thank you Gina! I wore statement jewelry a lot a few years ago. Remember the big bubble necklaces? I owned three! Maybe more actually. I've since retired all of them and happily go for my more wearable delicate necklaces and rings :)

  3. I agree on loving the understated gold jewelry. I used to do the huge statement pieces too and I'm glad that trend has passed. Delicate gold will always remain timeless, elegant and feminine. Would love to have my sign (Taurus) in a necklace too! Love the dress!

  4. Understated pieces are my go-to for everyday! They add elegance, but aren't overwhelming. I'm a virgo too. It makes me wonder about your feelings about astrology, because I feel the same way! I'll always read my horoscope, but I never believe it will happen!

    1. That's right Laura, you are a Virgo! I remember your birthday from last year ;) I just think a lot of astrology and its meanings are meant to be vague so they can apply to practically everyone. But, I do love reading my horoscope and I really resonate with the perfectionist side of being a Virgo! The necklace was too gorgeous to pass up.

  5. I love delicate pieces and have been trying to focus my jewelry collection on real gold that will last instead of something cheap that will turn green. I love that so many sites are filling the market with fine jewelry that isn't at a huge markup.

    1. Yes I couldn't agree more Lydia! I think real gold is so worth it. I can't even count how many costume jewelry pieces I've had to throw out (not even donate, but throw out) due to horrible tarnishing that couldn't be repaired. You really do get what you pay for most of the time!
