I resisted for months because Chanel anything is pricey, even a bottle of nail polish. Although I was always drawn to its steely blue color, there was so much hype surrounding Black Pearl that I didn't want to give in. How many polishes can one girl own? My collection is pretty large, and it's not something I'm proud of. I convinced myself that I didn't need this. However, I finally gave in to Chanel. And you know what? I'm happy I did =)

Do any of you own Black Pearl, or any other Chanel polish?

After what seemed like forever, my Zoya polishes arrived last Friday. I originally blogged about them here, way back on January 5th. I'm sure shipping isn't normally that painfully slow, but the promotion they had going on backed up the process. This is my hope anyway.

I wore the bright reddened coral, LC, all weekend and was very pleased with the smooth formula, opacity, and wear. I have tested each color out and two coats provide the hue that is seen in the bottle. I've read rave reviews on many blogs and now I understand why. Dare I say these are superior to OPI, Essie, China Glaze, and Sephora by OPI? Yup! You bet they are. My only complaint is that I have to order Zoya online. I wish they were more easily accessible.  But, good thing they aren't because otherwise I would have another addiction on my hands ;)

Have you tried Zoya?

While reading Tiffany's latest blog post, I learned two things: 1) I love her cozy sweater and beautiful new Prada booties and 2) now's the perfect opportunity to try Zoya nail polish. I have heard excellent reviews on the brand, but I can't find it anywhere and have always been hesitant of ordering online. Tiffany mentioned that Zoya is giving away three free nail polishes with the promo code FB2011. They reached 20,000 "likes" on Facebook and it's their way of saying thank you, I suppose! I quickly placed my order, simply paid for two extra polishes and shipping/handling, and now I can't wait to receive my order. I think the promo ends this Friday, so if you want to take advantage of a great deal then I suggest doing so shortly.

Here are the colors I chose to get for free:

I also decided to get two more. These I did have to pay for:

The color that first sparked my interest in Zoya ;)

11.10.2010

I was looking through my posts the other night and discovered that it's been awhile since I last featured a nail polish I love. I'm such a polish addict, how could this be?

For my friend's wedding, I decided on an old-standby: Essie's Bahama Mama. It is a beautiful creamy wine color. Nothing too incredibly unique, but this is definitely a prime example of "good Essie." Two opaque coats is all you need to achieve a beautiful crimson look. In fact, nine times out of ten Bahama Mama was on my toes last Fall and Winter. On the rare occasion I got a salon pedicure, I still was sure to bring my own bottle with me for the nail tech to apply. I have Bahama Mama to blame for my Essie obsession because it was one of the first polishes I ever purchased from the brand. I wish all of their colors could be this easy to work with!

I highly recommend this particular shade.

On another note, I was super excited and humbled when Andi of Saltwater Dreams asked me to do a guest post for her. She asked some of her fellow bloggers to write about their Holiday wish lists to be featured on her blog for the month of November while she participates in National Novel Writing Month. I love her blog as well as her writing and I wish her all the best!

As much as I love the fun, fluorescent nails of Summer, there is nothing that looks as rich and glamorous than the darker hues of Fall and Winter. I love looking down at my hands and seeing shiny wine colored finger tips as the backdrop for a giant cocktail ring.

This season, the dirtier the color, the better. Last year, it was all about navy and dark muted greys. I think teal has replaced navy, while olive has replaced grey (although I still love grey!)

With Flash: Essie Sew Psyched and O.P.I. Ski Teal We Drop

Love!

Two coats of both polishes. These are quite opaque, a great sign for those of you who I know love opaque polishes. I ordered Sew Psyched off of Amazon, and it arrived within two days! This is definitely "good" Essie. The formula is much better than other Essie polishes I own. Both of these are part of the Fall collections (Essie and O.P.I.)

Of course, I have my old standbys:
These will never go out of style
L to R: Essie in Bahama Mama, Sephora by O.P.I. in Meet for Drinks, O.P.I. You Don't Know Jacques!, Sephora by O.P.I. in Metro Chic

What do you girls think of olive and teal on the nails?  What are your must have polishes?

7.07.2010

Ok, so by now everyone knows that my favorite color of the season has been coral, especially on nails. Essie's Van D' Go and Shop Til I Drop have been on my fingers and toes about 90 percent of the time, with a little pink thrown into the mix every couple of weeks. I realize that Essie is a love it or a hate it nail polish brand. As Laura, or Lollipop 26, has written in her own blog "There is good Essie and there is BAD Essie!" I would most certainly agree. In general, Essie is known for its wide range of drop-dead gorgeous colors. And, it's also known for being too sheer and watery. I personally don't mind sheer, but many of you have expressed your disdain because of that very reason. If Van D' Go and Shop Til I Drop don't work for you, then I HIGHLY suggest giving Revlon's "Tropical Temptation" a try.

Proof:

My little wishbone finger, just one coat! Sorry for the blurry.

After applying two coats. I love Revlon polishes. The formula is much more opaque and less streaky than Essie. More affordable than OPI.

I've worn Tropical Temptation twice now, and I'm convinced it really is a beautiful true coral. The next time you're at the drugstore, see what you think!

I also want to thank everyone who commented and gave me feedback on my last post. After looking through tons of pics online, I have decided that this is what I want my hair to look like:

Olivia Palermo. I love the color, just a couple of shades lighter than what I have now so it won't be too much of a change. In fact, I really think this is very close to my natural color! I just love everything about her hair and am definitely bringing these photos with me to the salon the next time I go.

Top Row: Wet N Wild Candy Apple Twist, Wet N Wild Lemon Drops, Victoria's Secret (misspelled in pic) Cocktail, Essie Shop Til I Drop, Essie Van D' Go
Bottom Row: Essie Mint Candy Apple, Essie Pop Art Pink, Essie Splash of Grenadine, OPI Mod About You, Revlon Plum Seduction

These polishes will live on my nails for the next few months. I like doing brights when I'm tan, but nude or light pink also looks great with bronzey skin. I know some of these polishes are limited edition, but they can be re-created using any brand out there.

What are your favorites for Summer? I love nail polish so suggestions are welcomed!

4.10.2010

This isn't technically an outfit of the day because I wore this yesterday, not today. I'm actually sitting in my bath robe as we speak ;) Yesterday I had the day off, and I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful California weather. I have worn this exact same outfit before, about a week and a half ago, but I loved it so much I decided to do a repeat.

I am wearing: a light gray cami from Forever21, a striped tee from American Eagle, shorts from H&M, wedges from Nordstrom (Report), bag H&M, pearl necklace from Forever21, and my latest obsession: mini gold key necklace from House of Harlow (shopbop.com). Oh, and my lilac nails are China Glaze "Light as Air."

What do you girls like to wear on casual days?

2.27.2010

No long, wordy post today girls. It is raining, and I am planning on taking a nice hot bath to relax and warm up my bones! I just wanted to post some swatches of the three Essie nail colors that I mentioned a few weeks ago in my Essie Spring Nails post:

~Luscious Lips~ Very, very sheer! A bit too sheer, as this is after two coats. Nothing special, and certainly not what it looked like in the bottle. However, these polishes were buy two, get one free so I don't really regret it. It's nice and natural, almost like my own nails but better. I guess. Not thrilled.

~Neo-Whimsical~ So pretty! Again, a bit on the sheer side but still a lovely shade of pinky-lilac. I know I'm going to wear this one a ton over the next few months.

~Van D'Go~ I KNEW this would be my favorite out of the three! Love, love, love it. I am wearing it on my nails right now and it is just so gorgeous and vibrant. And, it's super opaque which I am pleased with.

Overall, I find Essie to be a bit streaky in application as well as very sheer. Van D'Go is the exception as far as it being opaque. I still favor Sephora by OPI and the regular OPI polishes, but if I want more natural color then Essie is still a good option. And Van D'Go is now one of my favorite colors of all time.
Happy Saturday! Where's the sun when I need it?

2.03.2010

Lately, I have been craving softly colored nail polish. Don't get me wrong, I still love my dark purples, wines, and greys. In fact, I am currently wearing O.P.I.'s "Lincoln Park at Midnight" which is a beautiful slightly shimmery dark purple...the cousin of the infamous "Lincoln Park After Dark." There's just something so undeniably sultry about dark nails that I have grown to really appreciate. There used to be a time where I only wore pale pinks and nudes. That was it. Well I am happy to say that I have ventured over to the dark side, and it couldn't be better! Except, I'm kind of growing tired of staring down at dark nails, made even darker in contrast to my pale skin. I think I'm just sick of Winter in general! I want warm sun, bronzey makeup, and a tan! Oh, and I also want to start moving away from the darkside and into the light. I am hoping these three Essie nail polishes will help move things along. They were buy two, get one free at Trade Secret. One is called Luscious Lips, which is a very sheer peachy-pink. The second is called Neo-whimsical and it is such a pretty lilac color with just a hint of pink. The third is actually my favorite. It is called Van D'Go and it is the prettiest true peach polish I have ever seen.

Left to Right: Luscious Lips, Neo-Whimsical, Van D'Go. I know the first and third look the same but they are actually very different. Van D'Go is much more peach and also more opaque in person while Luscious Lips is very sheer and is more pink in comparison.

I plan on doing NOTD posts with these pretties, so stay tuned!

Aside from the saucy name, "Meet for Drinks" is my go-to nail color for festive occasions. I wore it to complement my sailor costume on Halloween, and I am definitely going to sport the lovely lacquer on Christmas and New Years Eve. I just love dark, vampy, wine colors on short, manicured nails. In fact, I had a glass of Merlot immediately after polishing my nails and I couldn't help but notice that my polish matched my sparkling glass of vino.

What color are you wearing for the Holidays?

11.20.2009

Recently, I have been obsessed with navy blue nail polish. It's not quite as stark as black, and yet not as expected as deep purple. I think it is a great alternative to both. I picked up an N.Y.C. polish in the color "chinatown" the other day at CVS and I am totally loving it. The formula is surprisingly creamy and smooth, and I didn't encounter too much hassle with the brush, although it is a little wide for my taste. The polish dried really fast, "in a New York minute." And I love the subtle shimmer of the deep blue color. I believe I only paid a couple bucks for it. Gotta love that! I am actually so impressed with the formula, that I definitely plan on buying more in the future!

What do you think?

10.13.2009

Last week, I blogged about having found a good dupe of O.P.I.'s "Mod About You." I thought that I had discovered a similar polish by Sally Hansen in the color "Pardon My French." Well...how wrong I was! Crystal from http://www.lipglossgossip.com/ told me to check out a website called head2toebeauty.com so I did. Unfortunately, they didn't have Mod About You in stock, but it led me to another website called Lotusnailsupply.com where they did have it in stock! So being that I have been desperate to buy it, I did! It arrived five days after I placed the order. And honestly, I love it! It really is the perfect milky, pink color with just a hint of purple. It is also incredibly opaque. One coat is all it takes. Although the Sally Hansen Pardon My French is a pretty color, it is definitely NOT a dupe for the O.P.I. like I thought. Sorry girls, I made a little mistake on that one ;)

~The only thing I wish O.P.I. would change are their brushes. They are too wide for my taste, kind of makes the application messy. I wish they were more narrow like the Sephora by O.P.I. brushes~

10.06.2009

I have been searching high and low for O.P.I. nail polish in "Mod about you." It is just the most feminine milky pink color. I love the look of nudish nails any time of the year. You never have to worry about it clashing with an outfit you are wearing, because it looks great with anything!
So my friend let me borrow a Sally Hansen polish in "Pardon my french." It is very similar to the O.P.I. color! I have to give it back to her this weekend, but I think I'll stop by CVS sometime and buy a bottle of my own.

However, I still want the real thing! If anyone knows where I can find "Mod about you", please leave me a comment and let me know!

9.07.2009

My last trip to Sephora resulted in only one measly purchase: Sephora by O.P.I. in "Underneath my Trench Coat." Even the sales girl commented on how pretty this nail shade will be for Fall. It is different from any other color I own, which is why I had to get it. It's a taupey-brown with light gold shimmer. It has such a soft, pretty sheen. It has definitely put me in the mood for Fall! I also want to rave about the Sephora by O.P.I. polishes. The brush is so narrow, making application a breeze. And the formula is so creamy and smooth. I want to buy a bottle in as many colors as possible!

I appreciate your comments!

7.27.2009

I am loving bright, fun colors for my nails this summer. I usually gravitate towards light pink nails or nude polish, mainly because I can't stand chipping! And darker polishes can be a little tricky to apply. A steady hand is needed! But I bought this nail polish from Victoria's Secret when they were having their big semi-annual sale. It's called "cocktail" and it was only a dollar! It is a stand-out coral shade with flecks of gold shimmer mixed in. I am really happy about the consistency and staying power of it. I have had it on for five days now, and it still looks fresh - no chipping, no streaking! Coral is such a great color for summer, especially on tan skin. I plan on wearing this polish a lot! What colors are you wearing on your nails?
